PRIMARY MUSIC SINGING TIME ACTIVITIES to Motivate Children to Sing
CELESTIAL SINGERS sun/moon/star singing meter and singer award

DESCRIPTION: This celestial singing meter will help children improve the songs until their singing is “heavenly.” Stars move up as they learn the songs. Reward your superstar singers with a fun award.
To help motivate children to sing better by singing practice songs with names written on stars. Move the stars up the chart as children improve. The brightness of the kingdoms indicates the brightness of their singing behavior.
Make: Print, color, and cut out the Celestial Singing Chart and song stars. Mount the two-part chart on a poster and laminate the entire poster, or display the chart on a wall or board. Write the practice song names on the stars, laminate, cut out, and place in a container or mount around the room for children to find.
To Make Super Special Singing Star! Badges: Print, color, and cut out the badges (shown – that come with this DOWNLOAD pattern set) for children who are super singers.
To Use Singing Meter:
1. Show children the chart and star practice songs and tell them that as they sing the songs well, they can rise up the chart. Remind them that the brightness of their singing reflects the brightness of the kingdoms*. Our goal is to make it to the celestial kingdom with each song showing we are Celestial Singers!
2. You can leave the songs in place for the next singing time or remind them of where they were on the song from the last practice.
3. *Talk about the three degrees of glory and how bright and happy our lives will be when we reach the celestial kingdom, for there we can live with Heavenly Father and Jesus and our families forever (D&C 76:62).
To Use Badges: Give children who are super singers the “Super Special Singing Star!” badge.
Scripture Poster Award: DOWNLOAD the 2 Nephi 9:13 large poster to show youth and several poster-cards to give them as follows. Have youth listen carefully as they sing the songs about Heavenly Father’s plan and listen for the words that tell about His plan. Have them share what they learned. These scripture cards are great to collect and place in scriptures as bookmarks.
