YOUTH GOAL ACTIVITY. GIFTS OF SERVICE planner. Youth are instructed to not get “wrapped up in themselves,” to give service to FAMILY, FRIENDS, and individuals at CHURCH. Youth leaders can use this to plan in bishopric meetings. Youth can use it to brainstorm ideas, use it as a checklist, and a list of youth goals to aid the ward/branch and community needs.

LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
Gifts of Service planner

OBJECTIVE: Youth can use the planner to plan ways to serve family, friends, and those at Church. Gift planner states: “If you’re all wrapped up in only yourself, you’ll make a very small package.”

Talk about how thinking of others and serving not only helps others to feel good about themselves, it also makes you look good (your gifts will not go unnoticed).

However, the true Christlike serve is done unselfishly and unconditionally (without expecting something in return).

SERVICE Activity: Gifts of Service planner, Lesson Lifesaver, Come Follow Me, Sunday SchoolReview the following:
• We will SERVE OUR FAMILY by helping, giving of our time, and teaching others.
• We will SERVE OUR FRIENDS by sharing, caring, and listening.
• We will SERVE AT CHURCH by listening, participating, and showing reverence.

TO MAKE print activity in color or black and white.

THOUGHT TREAT: Gift Sugar Cookies. Roll out a sugar cookie into a square shape for each youth. Have them paint the cookie before baking with a paintbrush and cookie paints into a gift box with ribbon or paint a picture of something they plan to do as service. To make, mix two drops of food coloring with 1-2 teaspoons can (evaporated) milk. Remind youth that the gifts of service they can give will strengthen their testimony of Jesus Christ. He gave us the greatest gift of the Atonement. Brainstorm ways you can serve.

SERVICE IN A BOTTLE: Make a list of service ideas on slips of paper and place them in a bottle with the lid on. Place heart stickers on a bottle. Tell the youth that others don’t know we love them unless we show them through our service. If we have a desire to serve others, we need to “do it.” If we keep our ideas of service bottled up in our head but never take off the lid, we will never feel the joy that can come from service. Ask youth to find ways to serve throughout the week, then give them the opportunity to share their experiences the following week. Ask them to think about their testimony of the Savior as they serve and share how that service has strengthened their testimony or feelings of self-worth.

SERVICE DETECTIVES:
1. Assign four youth ahead of time to bring dark glasses and lead the others in this fun secret service mission.
2. Divide youth into four groups led by the four youth wearing dark glasses. Tell them they are on a mission to write a mystery service word(s) for service detectives to find. Follow group instructions below. Give the groups 5-10 minutes to write their code.
3. Youth now gather together to guess the mystery service clues, not in their group. Give them five minutes, each with a paper and pencil. Have youth write down the mystery service word(s) from each group.
4. Award prizes for those who guessed the mystery words. Prize: Smarties or Lifesaver candies.
Group #1 Symbol Codes: Think up a mystery service and write it in symbols instead of letters. Then write the letters A-Z, with the symbols that represent the letters below, e.g., an apple is the letter “a.”
Group #2 Hidden Messages: Think up a mystery service and write the words backward. Use one card for each word and tape cards to the wall randomly.
Group #3 Rebus Writing: Think up a mystery service and write using words, letters, and pictures, e.g., the word “that” would read “T + [a hat picture].”
Group #4 Picture Clues: Think up service and draw pictures on cards using a different card for each word.
