LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
I CAN DO MANY THINGS! David and Goliath poster or coloring page
OBJECTIVE: Help children know that as children of Heavenly Father we can do many things.
POSTER ACTIVITY – I can do many things – David and Goliath
1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “I can do so many things!” (1 Samuel 17). Tell the story of David and Goliath. “Even though David was only a small boy and Goliath was so big, Heavenly Father helped David do a very difficult thing. Heavenly Father will help us too.”
• Talk about hard things to do: not tall enough to reach things, not knowing how to do things, making friends, learning to tie your shoe.
• Talk about things children can do: help my family, eat by myself, make my bed, pick up my toys, hang up my clothes, fix my food, clean up after I eat or play, get my seat belt on, tie my shoes, smile, give a hug, take a bath, wash my hair, get dressed, say my prayers.
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Help me to know the many things I can do. Help me realize that Heavenly Father and Jesus will help me do things that are difficult.”
THOUGHT TREAT: Spirit-and-body cookie. Give children an unfrosted body-shaped cookie. Tell them, “Our bodies can do many things with Heavenly Father’s help.” As they watch, frost a dot on the cookie’s forehead and a heart on the chest. Tell them that Heavenly Father loves us so He gave us our minds and heart. Like David, we can pray for help. The Holy Ghost gives us ideas and feelings so we will know what to do.

SINGING for Sunbeam Lesson 22:
– I Can Do Many Things: Sing “Fun to Do,”
– “Do As I’m Doing,” and “I Am a Child of God” (Children’s Songbook, 253, 276, 2).
– For the same song, sing “Once There Was a Snowman” (Children’s Songbook, 249) change the word “snowman” to “giant” (compare this to the giant Goliath when he was hot with David’s stone).
