TO MAKE Print on cardstock paper, color, and cut out the sword and sword holder for each child. Fold the sword and glue it. Then fold the sword holder and glue edges only, leaving the top open to insert the sword.

THOUGHT TREAT Sword Breadsticks. Cut strips of ready-made bread dough into sword shapes; then twist the dough at the top to make a handle and bake at 350° for 20–25 minutes.  Remind children that those who buried their swords had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ and they did not want to sin or kill others with their swords.

Alma 24:19 “And thus we see that, when these Lamanites were brought to believe and to know the truth, they were firm, and would suffer even unto death rather than commit sin; and thus we see that they buried their weapons of peace, or they buried the weapons of war, for peace.”

Why Did Converted Lamanites Call Themselves Anti-Nephi-Lehies?

NOTE #1 (from the video shown left) Anti-Nephi-Lehies (“anti” means “who of” meaning “he is of Nephi and Lehi”)

NOTE #2 These Lamanites had strong faith in the Lord and followed God’s commandments. They wanted a new name, so they called themselves Anti-Nephi-Lehies instead of Lamanites. The Anti-Nephi-Lehies changed because of their faith in God. They repented of the bad things they used to do.
