SHINING EXAMPLE SPOTLIGHT:

You’ll need a flashlight for each youth, index cards, pencils, and art supplies to make thank you cards. Make an invitation and on it ask young women to bring a flashlight and a  1–2 minute spotlight, telling of someone who has been a shining example. Enjoy activities  1–3 as follows.

       • Activity #1 Flashlight Spotlight: Start by setting the stage. Turn out the lights and have youth shine their flashlights towards the person giving the spotlight (avoiding her face). They can take turns sharing their shining example under the spotlight.

       • Activity #2 Three Shining Examples: Give each youth an index card and a pencil to write down three of the shining examples they would like to follow. Before Activity #1, tell them to listen for three examples they would like to follow.

       • Activity #3 Thank–You Cards: Using the art supplies, have youth make a homemade thank–you card to send to their shining example.

A RIGHTEOUS EXAMPLE INFLUENCES OTHERS:

Invite youth to talk about people around them who have set righteous examples for them. Discuss what these individuals have done and why it touched them. What did these individuals do that motivated them to feel stronger or more motivated toward good works? Choose three people young women all agree are righteous examples. Then go do something as a group to show these people that you appreciate their example (babysit for them, bake and decorate a “thank you” cake, or wash their car and vacuum it.) The ideas are endless. Write a note and give Hugs candy along with real hugs.
