POST-AND-PRESENT Activity. DON’T JUST GOBBLE UP BLESSINGS: Extra-Miler Thankful Turkey feather find. Youth can spread their wings by giving thanks for their blessings like the one out of the ten lepers that returned to Jesus to give thanks (Luke 17:11-19). We can give thanks with all our heart, might, mind, and strength with this activity. Have the youth choose a feather and post it telling why they are thankful for the topic on the feather, e.g., friends, talents, prophets.

POST-AND-PRESENT Activity

Don’t Just Gobble Up Blessings

(Extra-Miler Thankful Turkey – Feather Find)

OBJECTIVE:
Give youth an opportunity to give thanks for promised blessings, and tell them how they can truly show their gratitude by going the extra mile. Some blessings to talk about on the feathers are Friends, Food, Holy Ghost, Clothes, Family Home Evening, Scriptures, and more.

TO MAKE: Copy, color, and cut out the images that follow. Flip a poster to landscape position, and mount the turkey on the bottom of the poster; then laminate the entire poster. Laminate and cut out the turkey feathers. Ahead of time, place feathers around the room with double-stick tape.
NOTE WHEN PRINTING:
SELECT “ACTUAL SIZE” ON YOUR PRINT-CUE SO THE TURKEY TOP AND BOTTOM WILL MATCH UP.

1. Show the picture from the ward library and tell the story of Jesus healing the ten lepers (Luke 17:12–19). Tell how one of the lepers came back to thank Jesus. He knew Jesus had healed him, and he knelt down and thanked Jesus for making him well. Heavenly Father has promised us many blessings if we are faithful in keeping His commandments. As those blessings come to us, we need to say thanks.

2. Show the turkey on the poster and say, “Let’s not be a ‘turkey’ and just gobble up blessings. Let’s remember where our blessings come from and go the extra mile like this turkey. Let’s spread our feathers and give thanks. Let’s talk about blessings our Heavenly Father has promised us and how we can give thanks.”

3. Have the youth take turns coming up and finding a feather. Have them tell you why they are thankful for the promised blessing (e.g., FAMILY) and place the feather on the turkey.
