TO MAKE: Print and cut out four copies of the smooth-edge quilt pieces, two or three copies of the ragged-edge quilt pieces (as indicated), and one set of good-choice and bad choice wordstrips. Glue the good-choice wordstrips on the backs of the smooth-edge quilt pieces and the wrong-choice wordstrips on the backs of the ragged-edge quilt pieces. Mix up the quilt pieces and place in a container to draw from.

TO PRESENT QUILTING BEE:
CHOOSE FROM OPTION 1* OR 2* BELOW TO PRESENT

1. Tell youth/children you are going to make a Comforts of Home–Family Quilt to learn ways we can make our family happy.
→  The smooth-edge quilt pieces show actions that make your family HAPPY because you are listening to the Holy Ghost and following Jesus.
→  The ragged-edge quilt pieces show actions that make your family SAD because you are not listening to the Holy Ghost or following Jesus.
2. Divide into two teams. Have teams take turns drawing a quilt block and reading the action on the back. Then have them tape the following presentation choices.
3. Award a point for each good-choice (smooth-edge) quilt block chosen. When all are gathered, add up the points and announce the winning team.

*PRESENTATION OPTION #1:
1. Place all pieces in the quilt randomly, not trying to fit them on the quilt, creating a crazy mixed up quilt because the ragged-edge quilt pieces (bad-choices) won’t fit evenly to make a comfortable quilt.
2. When actions are read and quilt pieces placed, look at the quilt and talk about how the bad choices (ragged-edge quilt pieces) make an uncomfortable family quilt. It is not soft, smooth, and cozy because there are holes everywhere.
3. Suggest they take away these ragged-edge pieces (bad choices) to make their family quilt comfortable, leaving only the smooth-edge (good choices) quilt pieces. Have children help you arrange it this way, asking them to leave only the best pieces.
4. Now admire the finished product, asking them to think of ways they can make their home comfortable and peaceful like the family quilt (without the holes).

*PRESENTATION OPTION #2:
Build the quilt, placing only the good-choice (smooth-edge) quilt pieces on the quilt and the bad pieces to the side, following steps 3 and 4 above.

THOUGHT TREAT: Sad and Happy Crackers. Using a can of processed cheese, decorate a large round cracker with two eyes in the center and a smiley face on one side and a frowny face on the other side. Talk about how we can turn our frown upside down by listening to the Holy Ghost and making right choices.
