Description of Lesson Activity: Read the message on the hand which explains that each of the five health needs is vital to each other (e.g., we can’t exercise effectively if we haven’t eaten a balanced diet). Encourage youth to chart their success this next week in these five areas (found on the fingers): Exercise, Balanced Diet, Water, Clean and Well Groomed, and Rest. Tell them if they care for their body in this way, they deserve a hand!

IDEAS: Tell youth that the health habits you acquire early in life will either increase or decrease your energy in the future. With good health, we can fulfill our earthly mission.

TO MAKE print activity in color or black and white. Fold tent-card as shown.

THOUGHT TREAT: Confidence Manicure Cookie. Cut out the sugar cookie dough in the shape of a hand and paint on fingernails (for girls) with cookie paints before baking. Cookie Paints: 3 drops food coloring to 1 tablespoon evaporated milk. Paint with a paintbrush or Q-tip. Spray with cooking oil spray and sprinkle sugar on top. Bake. Thought: Tell youth that this is a Confidence Manicure Cookie to remind you to manicure your nails each day to look and feel your best–starting with your hands.
