LESSON LIFESAVER Activity
True to the Faith Tools crossmatch

OBJECTIVE:
Tell the youth that they can be true to the faith and keep their covenants in spite of worldly pressures.
To do crossmatch, they can:

1. List five worldly pressures in the left column. Then draw a line to the tool or tools that would help them overcome each worldly pressure, (e.g., parents, good friends, scriptures, the Holy Ghost, church leaders, and family members).

2. Write about blessings you would receive from overcoming each pressure in the right column.

The Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley said, “You have the potential to become anything to which you set your mind. You have a mind and a body and a spirit. With these three working together, you can walk the high road that leads to achievement and happiness. But this will require effort and sacrifice and faith.”

He suggests prayer: “Pray for the strength to walk the high road, which at times may be lonely but which will lead to peace and happiness and joy supernal.”

His warning about friends: “As you walk the road of life, be careful of your friends. They can make you or break you. Be generous in helping the unfortunate and those in distress. But bind to you friends of your own kind, friends who will encourage you, stand with you, live as you desire to live; who will enjoy the same kind of entertainment; and who will resist the evil that you determine to resist.”

THOUGHT TREAT: Snacks and Tools. Copy the tool images and tape one on each sack with goodies to share. As each share their treats they can name a way this tool helps us to be TRUE TO THE FAITH: Parents (flat-head screwdriver), Good Friends (hammer), Scriptures (pliers), Holy Ghost (wrench), Church Leaders (measuring tape), and Family Members (angle nose pliers).

PEER PRESSURE PUDDING: Make several different colors of pudding in separate bowls so youth can sit around a table and paint a picture of peer pressure situations, using their fingers on parchment paper or waxed paper. Then share with the group the peer pressure and how you can overcome this by the actions or habits you choose to develop. Then youth can eat their finger painting with their fingers.

HOLY GHOST PROMPTINGS: Have the group share different ways the Holy Ghost has prompted them to steer away from peer pressure. Tell what you have done to keep your standards and covenants.
