Music Makes Me Happy

OBJECTIVE: Help children understand that good music can help us feel happy and remind us of Heavenly Father and Jesus.
CRAFT ACTIVITY – Happy Music – Band Concert Instruments
1. Print and copy the activity. To create the tambourine, glue the Happy Song label on a paper plate and place rice, popcorn, or beans inside. Place a plate on top, punch holes and sew together with yarn. To create the Music makes me happy shaker, place label on one of two cups, insert rice, popcorn, or beans in the bottom of one cup. Tape a second cup to the first. Tie on a few yarn streamers.
2. Use the Happy Song tambourine and the Music makes me happy shaker to create a band concert. Play music while children shake their tambourine with one hand and shake shaker with the other hand.
3. Sing “Happy Song” (p. 129) in the Primary 1 Sunbeam manual. Pictures on tambourine illustrate song.

THOUGHT TREAT: Sunbeam gelatin. Create the lemon-flavored gelatin jigglers recipe. Spray a shallow pan with cooking spray before adding gelatin dessert. Refrigerate three hours to set. Turn firm gelatin onto waxed paper and cut out circles to look like suns. Sing “Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam,” p. 60 in the Children’s Songbook.
