AGES 1-5 LESSON ACTIVITY. I LOVE MY WHOLE FAMILY poster or coloring page. Children can learn from this that they are a “little acorn, one of many you can see. And every little acorn comes from the old oak tree.” The HOME ACTIVITY at the bottom of the poster asks parents to show them pictures of their family and talk about who they are. Then talk about writing them a letter or card or calling and visiting them.

POSTER ACTIVITY – I Love My Whole Family – Poster
1. Print or copy the activity poster.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “I love my whole family! I am a little acorn, one of many you can see! And every little acorn comes from the old oak tree!”
• Help children feel that everyone in their family tree is important. You could even spotlight someone from their family tree (with a photo to show and tell).
• Show photos of your family members, telling who they are and why they are important to you. Ask children to tell you something about their family and why they love them (see “Thought Treat” below).
3. Talk about the Home Activity at the bottom of the poster. Pictures can be brought of each child’s family to show-and-tell.

THOUGHT TREAT: Family-in-a-Heartbeat pretzels. Give children a few heart-shaped (knotted) pretzels, one for each family member. Tell children that when you love someone, your heart feels a special feeling. As children eat the heart-shaped pretzels, have them tell you about their family and why they love them. You can even string pretzels onto licorice or ribbon to make a necklace or bracelet.
