OBJECTIVE: This lesson helps strengthen the youth’s commitment to keep their baptismal covenants and follow Jesus Christ.

ACTIVITY: Commitment Rhyme and Reason word find

Youth can strengthen their commitment to keeping their baptismal covenants by completing this Commitment Connection Rhyme and Reason word find. Fill in the missing word that rhymes with the picture in the corresponding box (for example, the last answer “Live the gospel” rhymes with the word “bell.”

Answers: Have faith in the Lord. Repent. Keep the commandments. Be kind to others. Don’t fight or quarrel. Live the gospel (see Enrichment Activity below*).

TO MAKE Print or copy and color the Commitment Thyme and Reason word find for each youth.

THOUGHT TREAT: Baptism Gum Balls. Place eight gumballs inside a plastic bag with a note you can create from the text (below). Read note with youth. Help them make and write in the #8 commitment. NOTE TO GIVE YOUTH:

I “CHEWS” TO BE BAPTIZED: Why Is Eight Great? Reason: To make a commitment to obey Heavenly Father’s commandments. COMMITMENT: I will live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in eight ways (7 are on the Commitment Connection word find). #8 is my personal commitment: _________________________________________________
I “chew”s these 8 gumballs (one-a-day) and think of how I “choose” to keep my baptism commitments.

SCRIPTURE CHALLENGE CARD: Help youth search and ponder this scripture card by filling in the blanks. Print this 5 x 7 card from the pdf included with the above activity. You can punch the two holes on the left and tie a ribbon to attach cards or use two metal rings to connect cards.

Make and display the following wordstrips. Draw a representation of the tower that King Benjamin used to teach his people. Mount the wordstrips on the drawing as you discuss ways we can take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ. Have the children think of ways they can obey the commandments represented on the wordstrips.
