YOUTH GOAL ACTIVITY. “BLOOMIN’ GOOD BLESSINGS” Word of Wisdom toss and tell game. Youth can learn how to have “health in their navel and marrow to their bones” and more as they play. Rehearse what can happen with God’s law of health found in D&C 89:18-21 (found on the block). As they roll Bloomin’ Good Blessings, they can name a blessing for keeping the Word of Wisdom. As they roll Keep the Word of Wisdom, they can tell the dos and don’ts of God’s law of health.

Word of Wisdom toss and tell GAME


Objective:
Help plan and conduct an activity to teach the Word of Wisdom to youth or children.

To Make: Print, color, and cut out the Bloomin’ Good Blessings block. Fold block, fill with cotton balls, and glue tabs to close it.

Teaching Activity:
1. Read D&C 89:18-21.
2. Talk about what is on the block.
3. Take turns rolling the block. If it lands on Bloomin’ Good Blessings, tell about what someone does who is strong at keeping the Word of Wisdom.

4. When it lands on the blessings, talk about that blessing and what it means.
To Play Game:
1. Divide into teams and have each team choose two blessings found on the block that is not the same as the other team’s.
2. Roll the block five times. Every time one of your team’s blessings, “Bloomin’ Good Blessings” or “Keep the Word of Wisdom,” come up, you receive a point. 3. When you roll “Keep the Word of Wisdom,” tell what you can do to keep the Word of Wisdom, e.g., don’t drink or smoke or do drugs, eat meat sparingly, exercise, get enough sleep.”
4. Play for 15 minutes and add up points to determine the winning team.
5. Share a healthy treat, giving two treats each to the winning team.

THOUGHT TREAT: (Healthy Snacks). Have youth bring their favorite healthy snack to share. Or provide healthy snacks, e.g., a slice of whole-grain bread with peanut butter or butter and honey, fruit, vegetables, granola bars. Option: Vegetables, e.g., radishes, carrots, or celery can be cut into flower and leaf shapes to remind girls to blossom and grow.
