YOUTH LESSON ACTIVITY. MY HEAVENLY TREASURE SACK filled with words of wisdom. Youth can reach in this bag to find jewel scripture treasures of thought to motivate them. Here, there they will find wisdom, e.g., BE HUMBLE: “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18) Take turns reading and talking about each. Or, read one each night before bed to ponder upon the next day.

My Heavenly Treasure sack
(Filled with Words of Wisdom)


OBJECTIVE:
To strengthen each child’s desire to become more like Jesus Christ by developing wisdom and an understanding heart. 

ACTIVITY: My Heavenly Treasure sack
Children can take home words of wisdom in a Heavenly Treasures sack. They can read the scriptures each day to remind them of the treasures that are of lasting worth. Take turns reading word-strips and talking about the words of wisdom found in the scriptures.

TO MAKE Print and cut out the My Heavenly Treasure sack for each child.

THOUGHT TREAT Heavenly Treasure Wisdom Waffles. Butter waffles ahead of time and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture (3/4 sugar 1/4 cinnamon) on top. Broil for 2 minutes in the oven to melt the butter and cinnamon sugar mixture onto the waffle. Serve waffles cold.  Tell the youth that heaven is sweet. Each groove in the waffle can represent a heavenly treasure you can take with you such as wisdom, knowledge, an understanding heart, prayer, scripture study, testimony, good deeds, baptism, and right choices.  Encourage children to dig deep into the scriptures each day to find heavenly treasures.

Help the children choose one of the proverbs to write down or memorize and share with their families.

Have the children find the book of Proverbs in their Bibles. Explain that most of these proverbs (wise sayings) were written by Solomon, and because of his great wisdom, these sayings can help us today.

Help them state it in their own words. Then help them decide how it applies to them. The children may want to mark some of these proverbs in their own Bibles. PROVERBS:

  1. “Hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother” (1:8).

  2. “If sinners entice thee, consent thou not” (1:10).

  3. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (3:5–6).

  4. “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding” (3:13).

  5. “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight” (12:22).

  6. “A soft answer turneth away wrath” (15:1).

  7. “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance” (15:13).

  8. “The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous” (15:29).
