Plan a Party
Drive-in Movie

1. Make this “Drive-in Movie” fun and easy by holding it inside the church (for a Primary party (or adults tend-the-children event).

3. Make an invitation, copying the car image or, the STOP invitation, replacing the words: “Activity Days!” with “Primary Party!”

4. Have children’s parents (note on the invitation) bring a box their child can sit in. There the child can decorate their box/car. For example use the car license plate, wheels, and headlights. The license plate reads IMSPESHL meaning I am special.
5.  Children can sit in the box to watch a short, 15-minute movie or cartoons.
6.  Play games before the movie.
7. Sing “Wheels on the Car” (instead of “Wheels on the Bus”).
8. Make treats children can enjoy while watching the movie. You might pack a sack lunch for each child. Ideas: popcorn balls • gummy Lifesaver wheels • Rice Krispies squares • fruit leather • trail mix • pretzels • cookies • string licorice • granola bar • animal crackers • water

Game 1—Car Relay Rally:

Divide children into teams. At “go,” have two from each team race across a room with a child in the car and an older child behind them, pushing them to the finish line. The first to arrive gets a point for their team.

To make the signs, mount them on large wooden craft sticks. Have a child with both signs in their hand hold one sign up at a time as children race their car (pushing it from behind) toward the goal line. Children can race while the “Go” sign is shown, but must stop when the “Stop” sign goes up. If they keep moving after the stop sign is up, they have to go back to start.

THOUGHT TREAT (Growing Imagination Marshmallows). Tell the youth that their imaginations can grow like marshmallows expanding in the oven if we work at it. Place a marshmallow on a plate and pop it into the microwave oven to warm up and watch it grow. Have youth use their imaginations to create marshmallow treats. Have supplies on hand to help girls create.
Growing Imagination Ideas:
1. Beatle Bug Motor Car: Place gumdrops or gummy Lifesavers candies on the sides of a marshmallow. Cook for 10 seconds to watch it grow into a funny car shape.
2. Moon Crater:  Cut a large marshmallow in half and press the sticky side into decorator candies. Place both halves in the microwave for 10 seconds.
3. Space Ship:  Pierce four holes in the sides of a large marshmallow and push shelled peanuts into holes. Cook for 20 seconds.
