Home “Tweet” Home Improvement List

LESSON LIFESAVER Activity for Come Follow Me, Sunday School, Activity DaysOBJECTIVE: Help youth identify things they can do outside of everyday tasks that will make home a more pleasant place to be.

To Use: Encourage youth to make a list of things they can do anytime to improve their environment at home. Challenge them to go to the list whenever they have free or leisure time, and work on the tasks to make home a “tweet” (sweet) place to be. Here they can list odd jobs that don’t normally do every day to improve life at home (e.g., clean out a drawer, cupboard, or closet, clean a corner in the garage or basement).

TO MAKE: Print activity in color or black and white.

THOUGHT TREAT: Bird Nest Cookies. Follow the directions on the Rice Krispies cereal package to make Rice Krispie Treats. Form into nest shapes and press jelly bean eggs into center before it cools. Tell youth that home is a place where love can grow. With a bird family, love starts in a tiny nest; likewise, as family members serve one another, their home becomes a “tweet” (sweet) place to live.

LESSON LIFESAVER Activity for Come Follow Me, Sunday School, Activity DaysNote: This Home “Tweet” Home Improvement List is different from the Home “Tweet” Home No-Mess Nest Routine where you list daily tasks, e.g., Shine the bathroom counter, Make your bed.

MUTUAL NIGHT ACTIVITIES

MOCK BEMutual Night Activities - Come Follow Me, Young Women, Lesson Activities, Young Adult Activities, GospelGrabBag.comDROOM CLEANUP:Have someone come and show youth how to clean their room. Have a mock bedroom set up or visit a youth’s (make arrangements ahead of time). Talk about how the room looks (being careful not to offend) and how it reflects on how they feel. Personal grooming and attitude is often reflected in how well the room is kept. If an individual looks clean and well groomed, there’s a good chance his or her room looks the same way.

BIRD HOUSE CLEANUP OR PET GROOMING: Pets need cleaning too. Borrow someone’s pet bird and demonstrate how to clean out a bird cage and care for a bird. Or you might show how to give a dog a bath and/or clip their hair. Cats keep themselves clean, but they need to have their teeth cleaned regularly by a vet.

PRETZEL PARTY: Show how to make pretzels or fun-shaped rolls. Contact the Rhodes Company for a free booklet or demonstration. See VIDEO:
