Youth GOAL

Life-Preserver Promises
Prayer, scriptures, and my actions will help me gain eternal life.

Goal Ideas

Youth can use this Jesus Is My Life Savior Life-preserver Promises planner to guide them to make and keep the promises of PRAYER, SCRIPTURES, and ACTIONS. This way they can navigate and sail safely through the storms of life and return to Heavenly Father.

Inspiration

Like the vital rudder of a ship, we have been provided a way to determine the direction we travel. The lighthouse of the Lord beckons to all as we sail the seas of life. Our home port is the celestial kingdom of God. Our purpose is to steer an undeviating course in that direction. A man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder—never likely to reach home port. To us comes the signal: Chart your course, set your sail, position your rudder, and proceed.”

LESSON LIFESAVER Activity

Jesus Is My Life Savior: Life-preserver Promises planner

GREAT FOR Youth goals, COME FOLLOW ME, Sunday School, Scripture Study, Family Night

OBJECTIVE: Youth can be successful in sailing the seas of life as they keep promises: Prayer, Scriptures, Actions. This way they can draw closer to the Savior and receive the guidance they need. Read the scripture and write the promises; then post them for daily reminders.

1. Read D&C 88:63

“Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”

2. Tell youth “You can be successful as you sail the seas of life because Jesus is our life-Savior. Because of His divine sacrifice in giving His life for us, we can live again. If we keep promises: Prayer, Scriptures, Actions found in the poster activity (below), we can develop a greater testimony of our Savior and live more like Him each day.”

JESUS CHRIST OFFERS ME “LIVING WATER”
Just as Jesus used water to teach the woman of Samaria, you can use water to teach youth why we need the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Talk about how Jesus Christ offers us “living water” reading John 4:16-23:

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

To Use Poster: Encourage youth to write three life-preserver promises they want to keep and post them to read daily. Examples:
(1) PRAYER: Pray morning, noon, and night to keep heaven in-sight.
(2) SCRIPTURES: Read a chapter or two of scriptures a day to stay on the strait and narrow path that leads back to heaven.
(3) ACTIONS: Remember to keep all of God’s commandments and not be a fence sitter; be on the Lord’s side.

Mutual Night Activities - Come Follow Me, Young Women, Lesson Activities, Young Adult Activities, GospelGrabBag.comGROUP ACTIVITIES
For Church or Family

WALK AND TALK WHERE JESUS WALKED: Create a reverent ambiance where youth walk on footprints that lead to pictures and stories about the life of Jesus. As much as possible, create a setting reminiscent of Jerusalem. Learn about the customs and traditions of the Jews. Tell about the conditions and political climate. Include music.

LIVING BREAD BAKING CONTEST: Talk about how Jesus Christ is the “living bread” and share samples of food Jesus would have eaten like unleavened bread (without yeast), milk and honey. Also have bread dough (raised, using yeast) for youth to design shapes. Bake, vote, and give awards, e.g. “Most Creative,” “Funniest,” “Most Likely to Be Eaten First,” etc. Have quotes to hand out or enlarged to read:
. “Come unto me … buy milk and honey, without money.” (2 Nephi 26:25)
. “Man cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)
. Meet … often to partake of bread.” (D&C 20:75)

Prayer Rock and Reminder NotePRAYER ROCK PAINTING: DOWNLOAD to use the activity (shown right), or:

Provide a medium-sized rock and paints for youth to paint their own personal rock. Talk about prayer using the scriptures. Invite leaders and youth to share their experiences and testimonies on prayer. Ask youth to place their prayer rock under, or on, their pillow to remind them to pray before going to bed. “If they bump their head, then there are prayers to be said.” They can hold onto their rock tightly as they pray thinking, “Jesus is my rock” as noted in the scripture (Psalm 18:2): “The Lord is‍ my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler (shield), and the horn of my salvation, and‍ my high tower.”
