HOVER OVER or ZOOM IN (to view)

• Have objects to play with (shown on the handout).
• Help children trace their hands onto the blank space (on the handout) or place poster paint on a sponge, then inside of hands to make a print of each hand (on the handout).
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Help me understand how many things my hands can do. Let’s play catch, make cookies, pop bubbles, or enjoy a game of peek-a-boo!” If time permits, show children how to do these things.

THOUGHT TREAT: Hand cut-out cookie. Cut sugar cookie dough into hand shapes, then bake, frost, and top with jelly beans or tiny candy (for fingernails). Tell children, “Hands are special because they help us _______.” Have children name ways they use their hands and help (e.g., brush teeth, dress, play ball, wash face, play drums, eat, feed the pet, set the table, dust the blinds, shine mirror, tend baby). (Alternative—handprint in playdough.)

SING “Hinges” (Children’s Songbook, 277). During the song, have children move their wrists to show where their hands are hooked on. Sing “Eensy Weensy Spider”. Use fingers to show (like a) spider crawling up your arm. Sing “Five Little Ducks.” Use the whole hand, putting fingers down as ducks go away, then raising them up when five little ducks return. Open/close whole hand as mother and father ducks quack.
