OBJECTIVE:
Tell children that when we are reverent we are showing love and respect for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. It is more than sitting quietly in a family home evening and at church; it is really listening and trying to respect. As we are reverent, we will be happy and feel the Holy Ghost guide us.

POSTER ACTIVITY – Reverence Poster

HOVER OVER or ZOOM IN (to view)

1. Print or copy the activity poster to color.
2. Talk about the poster, saying, “I can be reverent.” Play Follow the Leader, showing children reverent actions (see “Thought Treat” below). Children can take turns being the leader as others follow. Tell children that when they are reverent in Heavenly Father’s house they are showing love for Him and Jesus. Talk about how to be reverent.
3. Talk about the Home Activity: “Help me to be reverent in a family home evening and during family prayer. Help me learn to be reverent in the church by bringing something quiet that I can do.”

THOUGHT TREAT:  Hands, Feet, Eyes, and Mouth crackers. Use a can of spray cheese to draw these images onto four soda crackers for each child. Talk about our body and how we can keep it reverent to show love for Heavenly Father and Jesus.  Reverent Actions:  raise your hand before speaking, keep your arms folded during prayer, keep your hands and feet still during lesson and singing time, walk quietly in Heavenly Father’s house, keep your eyes on the teacher or song leader, keep your eyes closed during prayer, keep your mouth singing songs and speaking kind words, take your turn at playing, keep your chair in place, listen and share your ideas, share your toys and treats, say please and thank you.

SINGING for I Will Be Reverent (Nursery Lesson 20) and I Can Be Reverent (Sunbeam Lesson 38) Sing: “Fun to Do” (Children’s Songbook, 253).
