AGES 1-5 LESSON ACTIVITY. THE HOLY GHOST HELPS ME TO BE HAPPY flip-faces game. Children can flip the sign to say to themselves, “I’m sad when I don’t choose the right.” Flipping it to the other side to say, “The Holy Ghost helps me to be happy!” Heavenly Father wants all of His children to choose the right. This is why He sent us the Holy Ghost to help us make the right decisions and to know how it feels when a wrong decision is made. This way we can repent and flip to a new choice that makes us happy.

OBJECTIVE: The lesson helps children learn: The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead, along with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He is a personage of spirit (see D&C 130:22). The mission of the Holy Ghost is to testify of the Father and the Son and of the truth of all things (see 3 Nephi 11:36; Moroni 10:5). He can also guide us to make righteous choices and comfort us (see D&C 31:11). The way the Holy Ghost speaks to us through a still small voice to our minds and hearts.
CRAFT ACTIVITY – Holy Ghost Helps Me to Be Happy
1. Copy the flip sign that follows for each child. Mount smile and frowns on a wooden craft stick as shown. Help children line up smile and frown so they are not upside down.
2. Talk about the signs. Show smile side and say, “The Holy Ghost helps me to be happy!” Show frown side and say, “I’m sad when I don’t choose the right.”
3. Play the Smile and Frown game to help children vote on actions that make them happy or sad. Have them guess actions that invite the Holy Ghost and actions that turn the Spirit away.
To Play the Game: Ask children to take turns coming up to the front of the class or do this all together. When the teacher says the action, children turn sign to smile or frown to vote on the things that invite the Holy Ghost or things that turn Him away.
Vote on: ♥ Help brother pick up toys (happy). ♥ Push someone (sad). ♥ Come to Primary (happy). ♥ Say thank you (happy). ♥ Poke a friend (sad). ♥ Fold your arms (happy). ♥ Open your eyes during prayer (sad). ♥ Yell in the chapel (sad). ♥ Run down the hall (sad). ♥ Share a treat (smile). ♥ Sing (smile). ♥ Help teacher (smile). ♥ Listen to story smile). ♥ Whisper during the sacrament (smile). ♥ Help mother (smile). ♥ Fight with brother (frown). ♥ Share toys (smile).
THOUGHT TREAT: Smile sandwich. Break a graham cracker in half, and put frosting in the center to glue together. Then frost a smile on top. Tell children that it’s more fun to smile than it is to frown.
