I Can Be a Missionary Now! savings bank
OBJECTIVE: By creating this missionary bank children can realize they can be a missionary now and to save and prepare while they are young.
ACTIVITY:
Children can place this bank on their dresser to remind them to save for a mission and do missionary work. They can fill and open it just before their mission. Give them a coin they can drop in today.
TO MAKE:
1. Print or copy, color, and cut out the activity on cardstock paper. Ahead of time open a can with a can-opener that creates a smooth edge. Remove lid and label and wash can. Then place flap on the can with duct tape.
2. With children mount label on the can with double-stick tape or a glue gun. Challenge children to save and not spend the money saved for their mission. Then when the bank is full each time add it to a bank account for their mission, keeping a running total saved in the bank.
3. It is not necessary, nor recommended to place a hole in the top of the can (for children to drop in coins). They can open the lid to drop money inside. However, if you do want to cut a hole to drop coins into, have a handyman do it for you. Be sure to cover inside sharp edges with duct tape. See the slideshow below showing the steps.
THOUGHT TREAT (when appropriate): Missionary Rice Krispies. Press treats inside people-shaped cookie cutters.
