CHILDREN’S LESSON ACTIVITY. PREPARE FOR THE TEMPLE temple tie and tithing purse or wallet. Children learn about temples and how to prepare to go there by choosing the right and paying tithing with money earned. Laminate the images as children love to wear the tie and store money in purses/wallets.

Little LESSON LIFESAVER Craft Activity
Preparing for the Temple
temple tie, tithing purse, and tithing wallet

OBJECTIVE:
Help each child understand that temples are sacred places where families can be sealed together forever and then encourage them to prepare to enter the temple. As we pay our tithing we can actually help build temples. This way we are showing Heavenly Father that we want to be obedient and prepare to enter the temple (God’s house).

CRAFT ACTIVITIES:

Use these images (shown) to show children how families can prepare to go to the temple. Talk about tithing by moving coins in and out of the purse or wallet.

TO MAKE:
1. Temple Tie.
Cut out and color and laminate. Punch holes and tie a ribbon on each end to slip over a child’s head. One parent tells this story about the above Temple Tie, saying her son came home with this temple tie and wore it every day for a week. The following Sunday when he wore it to Primary it was all wrinkled. The teacher said, “If I would have known he would have liked it so much, I would have laminated it.”

2. Tithing Purse. Cut out and color and laminate. Fold purse in half and glue together on sides and bottom, leaving the top open. Punch holes (where indicated) to attach a string or ribbon for the tie or purse.

3. Tithing Wallet. Cut out and color and laminate. Fold wallet. Glue ends to make a pocket. Fold in half.

THOUGHT TREAT: Money candies wrapped in gold foil, coin-shaped candies to count out one-tenth, or use temple-shaped mints.

SINGING for Families Can Be Together Forever: Sing “Families Can Be Together Forever” (Children’s Songbook, 188).
